Perpetual Groove will mark their 25th anniversary with shows at Athens, GA’s The Rialto Room at Hotel Indigo on March 13 and 14. Dubbed The Best Place to Begin, the band describes the gigs as “an intimate way to celebrate 25 years of PGroove with the fans who’ve carried this music with us.” Though Perpetual Groove technically formed in Savannah, Ga. in 1997, the group’s classic lineup of guitarist Brock Butler, bassist Adam Perry, keyboardist Matt McDonald, Darren Stanley and Albert Suttle came together in 2001, after Butler and Perry met the latter two musicians, who were then active-duty members of the US Army, and the band called Athens home for many years.

In a post, Perpetual Groove previewed the weekend by explaining, “These shows aren’t unplugged—they’re full electric, but with a twist. Across both nights, we’ll dive into the stories behind the songs: the origins, the late-night moments, the inside jokes, and the moments that shaped the band. Expect a weekend built around community and connection: Two full-length electric sets each night, song histories and behind-the-scenes storytelling, VIP options, hotel packages and a Saturday cocktail hang and Q&A (with a twist) and late-night shows with our friends at Live Wire Athens.”

Brock and Perry started playing under the Perpetual Groove moniker while students at Savannah College of Art and Design and the original lineup featured future Bear in Heaven member Joe Stickney on drums and Brett Hinton on keyboards. There have been a few lineup changes since 2001 as well–John Hruby stepped in for McDonald for a time while the keyboardist focused on family and Darren Stanley has played drums with the group for the past few years. Suttle announced that he would return to the group to celebrate their 25th anniversary in October

Perpetual Groove will perform at Columbus, OH’s Woodlands Tavern om Tuesday, December 9
