On Saturday, Trey Anastasio made a surprise appearance with Hank Heaven at New York’s Church Street Boxing Gym. The Phish guitarist emerged near the end of the show, which took place in an actual boxing ring, to play on one of their originals, “Hank Heaven’s 113th Wet Dream.” Annie DiRusso, another indie artist Anastasio has worked with recently, sat in earlier in the night as well on “Pope from Chicago.” book NOT brooke, Renny Conti and James Eichman also took part in the festivities.
Hank Heaven recently released the new, impactful EP, Welterweight. Anastasio first connected with DiRusso and Hank Heaven at Jack Antonoff’s Ally Coalition Benefit, which was held at New York’s Jack H. Skirball Center for the Performing Arts this past December. After meeting the musicians backstage, Anastasio had Claud, Samia, Hank Heaven and DiRusso out during his portion of the multi-act show, highlighted by their take on Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers’ “That Summe Feeling.” Anastasio is said to be working with Hank Heaven on a studio project as well.
Phish will return to Commerce City, CO’s Dick’s Sporting Goods Park after a year off from their annual Labor Day tradition on September 4.
