Maggie Rogers sat in with Dead & Company at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden last night. The folk-influenced pop star emerged near the end of Dead & Company’s first set to sing on the Grateful Dead’s American Beauty classic “Friend of the Devil” and returned during the ensemble’s encore for a take on The Band’s “The Weight.”

Last night’s performance was Dead & Co.’s second of two at MSG this fall. Though Rogers has never performed with Dead & Company before, she made waves this past summer at Chicago’s Lollapalooza by sporting a two-piece orange and blue tie-dye outfit that once belonged to the Grateful Dead’s longtime sound engineer Dan Healy. Rogers borrowed the colorful threads from her publicist, Healy’s daughter Ambrosia (who has also worked with Dave Matthews Band, Phish, Alabama Shakes and many others). Rogers is close with Dead & Company guitarist/singer John Mayer, even joining him on his Instagram talk show earlier this year.

Dead & Company’s Fall Fun Run outing will continue at Uniondale, NY’s Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
