Bob Weir Sits in with Members of the RADS

The Gatorators is a new group featuring Radiators founding members Camile Baudoin, Dave Malone and Reggie Scanlan along with Eric Bolivar on drums and Mitch Stein on keys. On November 17, the New Orleans band appeared at Bob Weir’s recently renovated Mill Valley, CA club Sweetwater. Weir stopped by to see the show and joined The Gatorators onstage for a few songs, including “Morning Dew,” “Sittin’ On Top of the World” and The Rolling Stones’ “The Last Time.” As previously reported, The Radiators will reunite for a hometown show in January as part of Tipitina’s 35th anniversary celebration.

Members of The Meters, P-Funk, The J.B.’s and Galactic Will Tour Japan

For many, The Meters, Parliament-Funkadelic and James Brown are funk music’s three most important architects. In early 2013, members of all three bands will come together for three shows in Japan.

Slated to take place at Osaka’s Billboard Live on January 29 as well as Tokyo’s Billboard Live on January 30 and 31, The Meters Experience Presents: Icons of Funk will bring together Meters guitarist Leo Nocentelli, P-Funk keyboardist Bernie Worrell and James Brown/P-Funk trombonist Fred Wesley. Galactic drummer Stanton Moore, bassist Bill Dickens and keyboardist CR Gruver will back the funk icons throughout their run.

Umphrey’s McGee Members, Jeff Sipe, Roosevelt Collier, Lefty Williams and More to Join Everyone Orchestra in South Carolina

The Everyone Orchestra has confirmed their first two 2013 shows. On January 4 and 5, the all-star band will perform at Charleston, SC’s The Pour House. In addition to EO founder Mutt Butler, this incarnation of the ensemble will feature Umphrey’s McGee’s South Carolina transplants Ryan Stasik and Andy Farag as well as Jennifer Hartswick, Jeff Sipe. and Roosevelt Collier. In addition, Lefty Williams will appear with the group on Friday while Wallace Mullinax will join Everyone Orchestra on Saturday. Then, EO will board Jam Cruise.

Help Grace Potter Choose Her Holiday Cover

As previously reported, December Relix cover subject Grace Potter will perform at New York’s Bryant Park tomorrow. Part of the Bryant Park tree lighting at Citi Pond, the evening will also feature ice skaters, Broadway stars and other celebrities. Potter will perform a Holiday-themed song and is asking her fans for suggestions on Twitter. Then, Potter will head back to New England for a performance at Boston, MA’s House of Blues on November 30.

Lotus’ Luke Miller is Luke the Knife

Lotus’ guitarist/keyboardist Luke Miller has started a new DJ side-project. Billed as Luke the Knife, the solo project will feature a mix of disco and funk material.

Luke the Knife will play two upcoming shows. On December 14, Miller will perform at Denver, CO’s Funky Buddha Lounge on December 14, and on December 19, Luke the Knife will appear at Denver’s Cervantes Other Side. The latter gig will be a Luke the Knife Live show featuring live guitar and keys and featuring Lotus percussionist Chuck Morris on drums.
