Oliver Wood has confirmed a series of Northeast solo shows. The short run will kick off in Naples, NY on September 25, before touching down in Saratoga Springs, NY on September 26, Arundel, ME on September 28, Exeter, NH on September 29 and Northampton, MA on September 30. The Wood Brothers frontman will be joined by Ric Robertson as direct support at all five shows. In Exeter, Wood will offer two shows in a single day at the intimate The Word Barn.  

Just prior to those headlining gigs, Wood will also appear at Nashville, TN’s Harken Hall on September 12, sharing a bill with Lola Kirke and Carlene Carter as part of the Grassroots & Nudie Suits Festival.

At his upcoming gigs, Wood is expected to focus on material from his two solo albums, 2021’s Always Smilin’ and 2024’s Fat Cat Silhouette, as well as offer choice renditions of “songs that frequently showcase his love for mid-20th-century country blues.” In a solo setting, Wood also regularly pulls out material from his pre-Wood Brothers band, the Atlanta-based King Johnson, who were cult favorites on the Southern music circuit in the late ’90s and early 2000s.

In other news, the Boulder, CO-born artist recently released the self-titled debut album from Slow Accordion, a band formed alongside three friends and fellow Nashville musicians—multi-instrumentalist Matt Glassmeyer, bassist Ted Pecchio and drummer Mark Raudabaugh. The record has been described as “pure guitar improvisation,” highlighting a different side of Wood’s musical range that’s more akin to his brother Chris Wood’s work in Medeski Martin & Wood.
