Video has surfaced of Alison Krauss’ surprise appearance with Sierra Hull at Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium on Tuesday, July 7, during the Bluegrass Nights series. Krauss joined Hull during her second set for the 2001 original “Let Me Touch You for Awhile,” her 1992 track “Every Time You Say Goodbye,” Fiddlin’ John Carson’s “Cluck Old Hen” and the Union Station leader’s 2007 tune “Sawing On The Strings.” Hull’s multi-instrumentalist husband Justin Moses, who has worked with Krauss in the past, also appeared on the four songs while Price Sisters mandolin player Lauren Price Napier joined in on the final tune. Napier also emerged earlier in the set for a take on Bill Monroe’s “My Last Days on Earth” and both Napier and Moses made their way to the stage for “Bluegrass Breakdown” earlier in the show.

Krauss’ appearance was a full-circle moment for Hull, who first heard the musician’s third studio album, 1999’s Forget About It when she was only 9 and sat in with the Union Station leader at the Ryman two years later as part of a Grand Ole Opry event, where they performed both “Every Time You Say Goodbye” and “Cluck Old Hen.”

As our friends at Jambase reported, Hull spoke about the surreal moment from the stage last week, explaining: “When I think about people who have just sort of made me want to play music, she is certainly on the top of that list. I used to draw pictures of myself on stage with her—she knows, she’s seen ’em—and that was a long two years before I finally met her. One day I got a phone call from Alison asking if I would play the Grand Ole Opry with her and we got to play right here on this stage for the first time together when I was 11 years old. It’s still just as exciting to me tonight to have her here.” The report also mentioned that Hull gifted Krauss a picture that she drew of herself performing with Krauss and that the bluegrass star quipped that she will one day need the picture for the Country Music Hall of Fame, where it is now on display.

Hull will appear at Portland, OR’s Topaz Farm this evening while Krauss and Union Station performs at the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts – Filene Center in Vienna, VA.
