Julian Lage has announced a new series of tour dates. Backed by his band of bassist Jorge Roeder, drummer Kenny Wolleson and keyboardist John Medeski, the virtuosic guitarist and composer will deliver 11 more performances around the world, extending his fall live itinerary and adding a pair of dates in 2027. The quartet will perform music from Scenes from Above, Lage’s fifth Blue Note release, alongside other favorites from his catalog.

After opening for Goose in Toronto in July, the combo of Lage, Roeder, Wolleson and Medeski will work through a previously announced West Coast leg – including a new date in Stanford, Calif. – from Sept. 26 to Oct. 26. The band’s continuous string of new additions begins with an Oct. 17 engagement in Phoenix, followed by a series in the Midwest and Mountain states from Nov. 6-14, including Chicago, Minneapolis, Boulder, Colo. and Salt Lake City. After a few months of intermission, the band will reunite in 2027 for performances in Hamburg, Germany and Houston, Texas on Feb. 19 and April 9.

Lage released Scenes from Above in January, and the bandleader’s latest record was shaped by a reimagined approach to collaboration. In a new band of old friends, linking past stalwarts Roeder and Wolleson with the storied Medeski, Lage let friction and openness undergird alternately sedate, soulful, harried and hopeful songs. Rather than closely steering the conversation, as on 2024’s celebrated Speak to Me, the bandleader became a bandmate. “I came in with a desire to present this as an egalitarian thing,” Lage said. “My dream with composing, really, is to have something to talk about once we’re together.”
Tickets for Lage’s new tour dates will go on sale this Friday, May 29. Find more information at julianlage.com.
