On Oct. 8-11, the Moonshiner’s Ball will return to the Rockcastle Riverside in Livingston, Ky., for its 12th annual gathering. This year’s lineup presents a four-way intersection of the jam scene’s finest, west coast-inspired Americana, Latin psychedelic-groove, and the verve of New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian Funk.
This year’s lineup is topped by Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Bela Fleck My Bluegrass Heart, Fruition, BALTHVS, The Rumble Ft. Chief Joseph Boudreux, The Local Honeys, Hot Like Mars, Magnolia Boulevard, Boot Juice, Sabine McCalla, Jordan Smart and Natalie Brooke. Also included are Hot Brown Smackdown, Mama Said String Band, Doom Gong, Brother Smith and others.
In a post outlining the future gathering, the folks behind the event wrote, “Roots music of all varieties, with a firm grip on tradition and a wild eye on the future. Music that will make you think, make you dance, make you gasp at unexpected turns. New discoveries that will stick with you all year and beyond. The bands you’ll be begging us to bring back next year.”
They also added, “Set on the banks of the Rockcastle River in one of the most beautiful and secluded campgrounds in Kentucky. Bring your own beer, throw down a chair (or kick back in the hammock garden) and decompress. Escape from the world of chaos and combat and commercialism. Feel the community around you. Everyone is kind and creative, and open to others. You can express yourself freely. Be an active participant in making the festival a living breathing work of art to feed our famished souls.”
