As the highly anticipated 18th annual Roots Picnic approaches, the Philadelphia staple has announced its expansion overseas with Roots Picnic London. On Aug. 8 and 9, the Questlove and Black Thought-led three-decade band and Live Nation Urban will present two programs stacked with hip-hop and R&B superstars. To tie the celebration back to its origins, The Roots will extend their annual headline set to the spin-off by sharing the spotlight with Nas on Saturday.
Beyond the hosts, the inaugural Roots Picnic London will welcome 14 other big names. Sunday’s top-billing is split between neo-soul pioneers Anthony Hamilton and Musiq Soulchild. Both days will center a superset, with Saturday bringing J. Period’s Live Mixtape to London with support from Black Thought, Yasiin Bey and Griselda’s Benny the Butcher, and Sunday will reunite frequent collaborators Robert Glasper and Questlove with Bilal (who was joined by both artists on his 2024 live album Live at Glasshaus) and Common. Sasha Keable, Nia Smith, Sotts Street Park with Olive Jones, Benji B and Floetry’s first hometown performance in more than a decade will round out the program.
Roots Picnic London will stage at the historic Crystal Palace Bowl. Tickets will launch to a presale on Monday, April 20 at 12 p.m. BT, followed by a general on-sale on April 20 at 12 p.m. Find more information at palacebowlpresents.co.uk.
