Bruce Hornsby has unveiled Indigo Park, his ninth solo studio album, due for release via Zappo Productions/Thirty Tigers on April 3. After first heralding the project in January with a slate of summer tour dates, the storied singer-songwriter has now formally introduced his latest work with its title track and full tracklist, which notes features from Ezra Koenig, Bonnie Raitt, Blake Mills and the late Bob Weir, his longtime friend and collaborator.
In his four decades of advancing rock by infusing elements of folk, jazz, classical, bluegrass, jam and more, Hornsby has earned a reputation not only as an innovative composer and performer, but also as a passionate master of music’s technical and cultural intricacies. On his first solo release since 2024’s Deep Sea Vents, his groundbreaking connection with yMusic as BrhyM, he deployed this vast awareness to pressure-test convention, matching unstable and enthralling melodies with lyrical depth and density to scrutinize themes of memory and its elisions. He wrote the title track first, setting the album’s tone with a warped memory of a “great big entrance” gone awry at a 10th-grade party at Williamsburg, Va.’s Indigo Park Pool.
“It’s just an old bastard, looking back,” Hornsby reflected in a release. “To be honest, I’ve found a way, a path to grow old gracefully, with help from some newborn friends of mine.”
Hornsby cut Indigo Park with support from his longtime backing band The Noisemakers, as well as the top-tier talents of guitarist Mills, bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Chris Dave. He co-produced the 10-track set with Tony Berg and Will Maclellan, the seasoned producers and engineers based in Los Angeles’ Sound City studios, and wrote all the songs except “Alabama” and “Might As Well Be Me, Florinda,” which were co-written with late Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter.
Indigo Park is available to pre-order and pre-save now. Read on for the album’s full tracklist, and find tickets for Hornsby’s upcoming tour dates at brucehornsby.com/tour.
