Next week, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band will travel to New York for a special benefit concert. Staging at City Winery on November 4, the event will pull together an “All Star” ensemble of storied Preservation Hall players, including creative director Ben Jaffe, Branden Lewis, Clint Maedgen, Jafet Perez, Ronell Johnson, Revon Andrews, Josh Starkman, Nick Salcido, and Kyle Roussel.
The famed traditional jazz ensemble will bolster its sound with contributions from two very special guests. New Orleans soul queen Irma Thomas will take the stage to lead treatments of classics from her vast catalog, including a rendition of her powerful signature song “Time Is on My Side.” Six-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Yola will bring her unmistakable brand of electrifying country soul for her first-ever collaboration with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Further guests will be announced as the event approaches.
Proceeds from the Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s benefit performance will go towards the Preservation Hall Foundation–the vital non-profit organization committed to protecting and perpetuating New Orleans’ musical heritage–and its Pass It On campaign to renovate the historic structure next to the Hall. The revitalized building will serve as a venue for music education programs and art exhibitions, while employing local musicians through artist-in-residence programs and intergenerational mentorship, ensuring the transmission of the city’s timeless town to promising young talents.
Tickets for the Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s benefit at City Winery are available now. Learn more about the Preservation Hall Foundation at preshallfoundation.org.
