After a long year away, Foo Fighters have announced their next run of stadiums across North America with the Take Cover Tour.
From August 4 to Sept. 26 of next year, the titanic post-grunge outfit will make 12 stops in the U.S. and Canada, beginning with an engagement at Toronto’s Rogers Stadium; other high-profile stops in the series include Chicago’s Soldier Field, Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, Nashville’s Nissan Stadium, Washigton, D.C.’s Nationals Park, Vancouver’s BC Place and a finale at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium. The new dates follow some recent surprise club shows and will be the band’s first proper stadium sprint since the Everything or Nothing at All Tour, which ran from 2023 to 2024.
“Since our return to the stage in San Luis Obispo five weeks ago, we have been reminded of why we love and are forever devoted to doing this Foo Fighters thing,” frontman Dave Grohl said of the impetus for the band’s reemergence. “From reuniting as a band and staring at a list of 30 years worth of songs to brush off, to reimagining versions with the incredible blessing of the one and only Ilan Rubin behind the drums, to reconnecting with our amazing fans and blasting them with everything we’ve got (no matter the size of the venue) because we would not be here without them, we have the most solid core. And the sun is finally rising over the horizon.”
Alongside the tour announcement, Foo Fighters have shared the new single “Asking for a Friend.” In the wake of the lighter, wide-eyed and reflective “Today’s Song,” the band’s latest is a dark, thrashing, stormy return to form and a demonstration of some restless reinvention fo their tried and true hard rock sound. Grohl called it “a song for those who have waited patiently in the cold, relying on hope and faith for their horizon to appear. Searching for ‘proof’ when hanging by a wish until the sun shines again.”
Foo Fighters’ Take Cover Tour will feature nightly support from Queens of the Stone Age, with scattered appearances from Gouge Away and Mannequin Pussy. A presale for subscribers to the Foo Fighters Newsletter will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 10 a.m. local, followed by an artist pre-sale on Wednesday, Oct 29 at 10 a.m. local and a a general on sale on Friday, Oct. 31, at 10 a.m. local. Foo Fighters have weathered a period of significant change since their last full-scale tour, most notably with the departure of Josh Freese, who joined the band in 2023 after 25-year drummer Taylor Hawkins’ passing in 2022. Freese’s seat was filled by former Nine Inch Nails drummer Rubin, and the former then took the latter’s spot in Nine Inch Nails. Read more about the trade here.
