My Morning Jacket touched down in New York last night, Oct. 16, to set off their hotly anticipated three-night series at the Brooklyn Paramount. Two long years after their October 2023 run at the Beacon Theatre, the roots-rock standard-bearers’ triumphant return to NYC was well worth the wait, with night one’s setlist looking back on a pivotal chapter in their early catalog and introducing the city to the electrifying live translations of their 10th studio album, is. In line with their earlier stagings in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Boston and Portland, Maine, the band accented another stop on their 2025 tour’s last leg by including a live debut.

My Morning Jacket’s show on Thursday night with the third of five highly anticipated Z anniversary performances, plotted at key dates across the country through Nov. 1. To properly honor the project hailed as a masterpiece of modern roots rock and one of the defining rock albums of the 2000s, the group set off their performance by winding through the entirety of its 10-song tracklist, from the soulful, resonant opening chords of “Wordless Chorus” through the fiery finale of “Dondante.”

The second half of My Morning Jacket’s staging was just as enthralling as the first, balancing live staples with rarities like “Chill,” which they revived after a 15-year absence last week in Philadelphia. Alongside the is standouts “Half a Lifetime” and “Squid Ink,” the quintet touched on a live debut of “The Devil’s Peanut Butter,” one of the outtakes released as part of the Z (20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) reissue earlier in October. The group closed out the main portion of their performance with a segued sprint through “Wasted” and “En La Ceremony,” which they debuted at the Philadelphia stand, then closed out the show with an encore of “Tropics (Erase Traces),” “Smokin’ from Shootin’,” “Die for It” and a stirring finale of “Mahgeetah.”

My Morning Jacket will return to the Brooklyn Paramount tonight, then close out the series on Saturday and move on to eight more shows in the Midwest and Southeast through Nov. 1. Find tickets and more information at mymorningjacket.com.
