Margo Price has released a new studio recording of Bob Dylan’s 1965 classic, “Maggie’s Farm.” The track arrives after Price road-tested the choice material in a twofold, providing a live performance at this year’s Farm Aid gathering in Minneapolis, with assistance from Billy Strings and Jesse Welles, as well as at the 60th anniversary of Newport Folk Festival with John C. Reilly. The track arrives with renewed potency, striking the present moment with the rebellious spirit to oppose oppressors and deny conformity.

The latest adaptation of Dylan’s Bring It All Back Home release starts strong, with barely-there instrumentals that spotlight Price and her band’s raw plea to give up the task in pursuit of independence. The soul-ache of the song’s ascent is quickly met with a burst of country-fury, an exhilarated pursuit of the iconic lyrics, sung in a similar style and arrangement as her previous live performances.

Price’s take on “Maggie’s Farm” comes on the heels of Hard Headed Woman, her fifth studio album, which was released on August 29 via Loma Vista Records. Like the cover, the songstress and her band plaster the composition with fiery guitar licks, the twang of pedal steel, and boisterous harmonica solos that showcase the ensemble’s ability to reinvigorate a timeless classic and make it their own.
