Jorma Kaukonen will celebrate his 85th birthday on the road, accompanied by a roster of collaborators and musician friends. 

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, known for his Jefferson Airplane roots, will participate in a four-stop run, beginning on November 1, 2025, at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C., with special guests Jim Lauderdale, Ross Garren, Justin Guip, and Steve Kimock. 

The musician’s follow-up on November 29, 2025, is billed to include assistance from his longtime music partner, Jack Casady, as well as the husband-and-wife duo of Larry Campbell and Teresa Campbell, Steve Earle, and recurring instrumentalists Garren and Guip. 

On the other side of the country, Kaukonen will resume his birthday celebration with a performance at San Francisco’s Masonic Auditorium on December 5, with another group of lauded accompaniment, including Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, Sam Grisman, Peter Kaukonen, Bruce Cockburn, John Burlbut, and returning guests, Casady, Garren, and Guip. 

Kaukonen’s final performance on this run will take place on December 13 at the Paramount Theatre in Denver, featuring Indigenous artists R. Carlos Nakai and Will Clipman, as well as David Hidalgo, along with Casady, Garren, and Guip. 

According to the official press release, “The 85th Birthday Celebration Tour sees him mine his extensive output as an artist, songwriter, and performer to present a set that audiences have never experienced before. From recognizable riffs to his famously meditative solo guitar compositions, he will tell his life story through these songs.”

Kaukonen’s festive run coincides with the November 28, 2025, release of his new live album, Wabash Avenue, on vinyl, in recognition of Record Store Day. The collection of songs was originally recorded in 1965, representing one of the artist’s earlier performances at The Offstage in San Jose, Calif., and showcases a 25-year-old Kaukonen, fresh off his debut with Jefferson Airplane.
