Over the weekend, The String Cheese Incident appeared on the West Coast, performing at the Britt Pavilion in Jacksonville, Ore., on Saturday, August 30, before their two-set delivery at Cannifest in Eureka, Calif., on Sunday, August 31. During their initial gig, the band welcomed a special guest and seasoned collaborator, Jeff Pevar, known as a Phil Lesh & Friends contributor and member of CPR [David Crosby, Jeff Pevar, and James Raymond], to stir up a series of fused moments that adhered to “County Road Blues” and Jerry Garcia’s “Tore Up Over You.”
On the other side of their Oregon date, The String Cheese Incident took their talents to Cannifest in Eureka, Calif. The group’s Sunday stand boasted similarities to their early summer performance at Electric Forest in Rothbury, Mich., on June 21, 2025, with a thematic throughline that pieced together songs with cannabis themes or mentions. The Humboldt County concert was the ideal location for the choice motif, known as the Emerald Triangle of Northern California, a name associated with the region’s fertile conditions for growing the potent plant.
The band packed their second set at the festival with cannabis-naming material, beginning with Cypress Hill’s “Hits from the Bong,” a track that previously debuted during their aforementioned Electric Forest frame. They kept up the pattern, with more material that was performed in Michigan with the arrival of Bob Dylan’s “Rainy Day Women #12 and 35,” with the classic line: “Everybody must get stoned,” causing a response from the galvanized crowd.
The frame extended to include other smoke-summoning numbers like Sublime’s “Smoke Two Joints,” Peter Tosh’s ‘70s pot anthem “Legalize It,” Musical Youth’s classic “Pass the Dutchie,” Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley’s “Welcome to Jamrock.” While on stage, Bill Nershi lit up a joint, complementing their song choices with smoke rings and smiles, just weeks out from the start of fall harvest.
Up next, The String Cheese Incident is scheduled to take part in Las Vegas’ Bender Jamboree, Sept. 10-13. Tickets are on sale now.
