Oscar-winning director Francis Ford Coppola, known for The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, and The Outsiders, will participate in a six-stop live tour at select coast-to-coast venues this summer. Each night will feature a screening of Coppola’s monumental 2024 sci-fi/drama Megalopolis, capped by a lively discussion titled “How To Change Our Future” with the legendary filmmaker, and live audience Q&A.
The tour begins on Sunday, July 20, at Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank, N.J., before Ford arrives at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y., on Wednesday, July 23. The acclaimed director will continue with a live appearance on Friday, July 25, at The Chicago Theatre, followed by Sunday, July 27, at Denver’s Paramount Theatre.
“This is the way MEGALOPOLIS was meant to be seen, in a large venue, with a crowd and followed by intense interactive discussions about the future,” shared Coppola via press release.
Making his way out West, Coppola will participate in an evening at Dallas’ Texas Theatre on Tuesday, July 29, before the final screening and discussion on Friday, August 1, at San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts. Coppola’s Golden City appearance coincides with Dead & Company’s first night at Golden Gate Park.
Notably, after attending a Grateful Dead concert, Coppola tapped the Rhythm Devils, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, and asked them to perform the drum sections for Apocalypse Now, along with seven other musicians who evoked the sound and sensations of the jungle during the Vietnam War for the film’s soundtrack.
Moreover, tonight, Wednesday, June 18, a televised special, The AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Francis Ford Coppola, will premiere on the TNT network at 10 p.m. local time.
Tickets will be available at ticketmaster.com starting Wednesday, June 18, at 1 PM ET / 10 AM PT.
