On Friday, May 2, The Headhunters will present their Second Annual Bembé: Jazz Fest After Hours during the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The event will take place at Music Box in New Orleans, with special guest Widespread Panic’s Domingo “Sunny” Ortiz and more.

During the one-night musical occasion, original members of The Headhunters, Bill Summers, and Mike Clark, will reprise their 50th-anniversary Bembé, drawing on 2024’s event at the exact location. If last year’s concert was any indication of what’s to come during the forthcoming live show, attendees can anticipate classics like “Watermelon Man” and “God Made Me Funky.”

In addition to initial members Summers and Clark, the current Headhunters lineup includes Kyle Roussel (keys), Chris Severin (bass), and Clarence Johnson (sax). The aforementioned players will be joined by percussionist Ortiz, a longtime member of Peach State ensemble Widespread Panic, and fellow guest participants Cyril Neville, Herlin Riley, Ashland Parker and C’est Funk.

According to the ticket page, more surprises will be announced. Tickets are on sale now.
