Canadian rock band Bachman-Turner Overdrive have unveiled their first piece of new music in over 25 years, sharing the single “60 Years Ago,” a reflection of their native Winnipeg and its live music capacity, featuring guitar great and seasoned guest Neil Young. Listen below.

Proceeds from the sale of “60 Years” will go toward The Bridge to Nowhere charity ride, a nonprofit cycling club that aims to end homelessness in Winnipeg, which is produced in partnership with Brothers of the Fork and Hockey Helps the Homeless.

Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s first offering of new music arrives in tandem with the start of their Back in Overdrive Tour 2025, beginning tomorrow, April 1, at Victoria, B.C.’s Save On Foods Memorial Centre. The trek through Canada will last through May and come before the band’s US tour dates arrive with The Marshall Tucker Band and Jefferson Airplane, beginning July 18 at Harrah’s Stir Cover in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

As a thank-you to Winnipeg, the city that shaped us, I wrote a song called ‘60 Years Ago,’” one half of the band’s namesake, Randy Bachman, states. “It features Tal Bachman, KoKo Bachman, and me, with Fred Turner on vocals, and features an incredible guitar solo from Neil Young.”

Adding context to the release, he continues, “This song is our tribute to Winnipeg, the place where we grew up as teenagers in the ’60s, a time when the city’s music scene was exploding. It was the Liverpool of North America, a melting pot of incredible talents. Everyone I’ve talked to who spent time in Winnipeg and witnessed that musical explosion is excited to hear this song, and I hope you all enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating it.”

Known for their hits like “Taken Care of Business” and “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet,” Bachman continues the BTO legacy with an updated lineup, including family such as his son Tal Bachman on guitar, his daughter-in-law KoKo Bachman on drums, and friends, Lance Lapointe on bass and Brent Knudsen on guitar.
