After taking five weeks off the road, Goose returned to the stage last night in San Diego. The band begins a steady slate of shows that will extend into early September and includes two nights at the Hayden Homes Amphitheater in Bend, OR (8/21 with Greensky Bluegrass and 8/22 with Buffalo Traffic Jams) and three Red Rocks performances (8/27, 8/28 and 9/1),

Ther group opened with two standalone tunes from 2025’s Everything Must Go: “Animal” and “Iguana Song.” Then Goose moved into “Drive” which has been in the band’s repertoire since 2018 and segued into a first-ever performance of Andrew Bird’s “Capsized,” which appears on his 2016 record Are You Serious. Rick Mitarotonda sang the tune. This was followed by an improv-laden take on the Dripfield song “Borne,” which found its way to “Silver Rising.” The set-closer was live staple “Flodown.”

Goose then delivered a four-song second set. The group started things out with an open-ended take on the title track track to the band’s latest album, Big Modern! which eventually led into Dripfield’s “Slow Ready.” Then it was another one-two punch, as an extended “Thatch” eventually moved into a cover of the Jerry Garcia-Robert Hunter tune “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo,” which has been in the group’s repertoire for over a decade. The encore was Dripfield’s closing number “726.”

This evening Goose is at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.
