James Taylor’s hit songs have inspired a new musical. The Grammy-award-winning singer-songwriter and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame recipient’s hit material will be performed on the stage under the title Fire and Rain.
According to the initial report via Variety, the production has hired the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer of The Minutes and August: Osage Country, the Tony-awarded Tracy Letts, to concoct the original storyline. Fellow decorated talent David Cromer will direct the play.
A long list of popular artists have already received the Broadway treatment, including Tina Tuner’s Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, Dolly Patron’s Dolly: An Original Musical, The Temptations’ Ain’t Too Proud, and more, which aim to honor the greats using another mode of creative expression.
Taylor’s songs have appealed to listeners for more than 50 years, including chart-ascending originals and lauded covers like “Carolina in My Mind,” “Country Road,” “You’ve Got a Friend,” “Mexico,” “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You),” and more.
Fire and Rain is reportedly in the early stages of development and overseen by Bespoken Theatricals.
Last week, Taylor announced August and September tour dates with his All-Star Band. Read more.
