On Sunday, Feb. 2, Dawes’ Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith helped commence the 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards by leading a prestigious lineup of musicians Brad Paisley, Brittany Howard, John Legend, Sheryl Crow, and St. Vincent. During the occasion, the brothers offered a memorable ode to Randy Newman by covering the aptly titled “I Love LA” in honor of the city’s strength after last month’s wildfires.
Dawes’ Grammy kick-off performance elevates the group’s status and joins the ranks of lauded acts who have previously taken on the task, such as Bruce Springsteen, U2, Prince and Beyonce, Elton John and Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, and other celebrated figures of the music industry.
Previously, the band participated in the FireAid benefit concert last week at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum. During the charity concert, Dawes started their stage time with a fitting original, “Time Spent in Los Angeles,” before Stephen Stills and Mike Campell’s arrival on the Buffalo Springfield favorite, “For What It’s Worth.” The lineup swelled with the addition of Stills’ former bandmate, Graham Nash, for the crowd erupted sing-a-long, “Teach Your Children.”
According to the band’s official press release, “Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith are among the many Los Angeles area residents whose lives have been impacted by the destructive fire. Griffin lost his home while Taylor lost his studio and most of the band’s musical gear and equipment.”
