George Porter Jr. has confirmed the details for his annual hometown birthday show. The Meters bassist will hold court at New Orleans’ famed Maple Leaf, where he hosts a Monday residency as well, tomorrow, December 25. The Christmas Day show is billed as George Porter Jr.’s Lucky 77 and will likely weave in several of the bassist’s close friends. A mix of ticket options are available, including poster bundles.
Porter, who will turn 77 on December 26, has a long history of hosting guest-filled concerts in New Orleans on or around his birthday. His Monday night stand at The Maple Leaf will pick up on December 30 with a show featuring GPJ Trio, with Mike Lemmler on keys and Terrence Houston on drums, as well as Chris Adkins on guitar.
