Last week, Bobby Weir appeared as a surprise guest at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, Calif. The musician, known for his time in the Grateful Dead, took the stage on Thursday, October 12, 2023, during a night billed as the Rainforest Action Network Benefit, along with Pete Sears, Jackie Greene, Leslie Mendelson, Jay Lane, Garrett Deloian and Nathan Gray.

During the unannounced sit-in, the partial owner of the Golden State venue joined the billed players on a selection of Grateful Dead-associated tunes, beckoning to his extended history with the San Francisco jamband on classics such as “Shakedown Street,” “Brokedown Palace” and the Jerry Garcia original “Sugaree.”

The night of music and charitable endeavors was billed as “REVEL” and aimed to assist with raising donations to support Rainforest Action Network’s mission to “preserve forests, protect the climate and uphold human rights by challenging corporate power and systemic injustice through frontline partnerships and strategic campaigns.”
