After a long-awaited and triumphant comeback, Pretty Lights helmed The Soundship Spacesystem Tour which unfurled its musical voyage through a six-show series across Colorado. To celebrate his return after his five-year absence and successful staggering opening performances in the Centennial State–three at the renowned Mission Ballroom in Denver and another trio at the Dillon Amphitheater–the artist also known as Derek Vincent Smith, extended his gratitude via a recap video.
Smith’s video weaved together shots of the new visuals that accompanied the shows and paid homage to music’s profound capacity for kindling love, forging connections and nurturing communal spirit. Within the recap, Smith shared the screen with his fellow companions from the Pretty Lights live band: Michal Menert, Borahm Lee, Alvin Ford Jr., and Chris Karns. With an infectious and heartfelt enthusiasm, Smith conveyed his deep-seated appreciation for the unwavering support that buoyed the performances. Beyond the music itself, Smith’s message echoed the need to look beyond one’s struggles.
In a declaration, Smith reminded those grappling with personal challenges that true solace often lies in connections rather than afflictions. “And remember, anyone who’s struggling out there,” he remarked, “the opposite of addiction is connection, so plug into your community.” Smith’s counsel encouraged all to embrace love in every moment: “Let’s get it every day. We outta here,” Smith added. The rallying cry encapsulated the very essence of the tour, embodying the profound ethos that underscores Pretty Lights’ music and its mission.
After yet another docking at The Eastern in Atlanta, The Soundship Spacesystem Tour will set sail once again. The sonic vessel will make performances at The Brooklyn Mirage next month, followed by shows at The Salt Shed in Chicago, The Caverns in Pelham, Tenn., and The Warfield in San Francisco. The grand crescendo will arrive on Dec. 1 and 2 at Mardi Gras World in New Orleans.
