Musical trio boygenius–comprised of Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus–have curated an eclectic 82-song Spotify playlist that offers an intimate glimpse into the musical tapestry that inspired their exceptional album, The Record. The playlist traverses a diverse spectrum, weaving through indie, folk, and pop realms, while also delving into punk, hardcore, classic emo, folk punk, alternative, new wave, and post-punk territories.
Among the array of artists gracing the playlist are indie/folk/pop luminaries such as Big Thief, Hop Along, Waxahatchee, Land of Talk, Mitski, Band of Horses, The National, Wilco, Great Grandpa, Bon Iver, and St. Vincent. The journey further extends to encompass the punk/hardcore realms with tracks from Fugazi, Angel Du$t and Joyce Manor. Classic emo sentiments are evoked by Mineral, while folk punk tones resound with Defiance, Ohio. The playlist also embraces classic alternative anthems by Frank Black, The Soft Boys, and Nada Surf, and ventures into new wave/post-punk territory with selections from Suicide, The Cars, and Cyndi Lauper.
Diverse and captivating, the playlist takes listeners on a sonorous exploration from art rock visionary Brian Eno to the legendary Sinéad O’Connor and from the funkadelic sounds of Parliament to the dreamy shoegaze of Greet Death. Also featured is Jay Som, a collaborator who not only contributed to boygenius’ discography but also joined them live on stage.
