An official and authorized documentary titled Hate to Love: Nickelback is set to have its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. The film, directed by acclaimed British filmmaker Leigh Brooks, approaches the band from a fascinating angle, specifically Nickelback’s journey to becoming chart-topping artists while delving into the persistent negativity that has accompanied their commercial success.

The description of the documentary on the TIFF website describes Nickelback as one of the most successful acts in music history while also being the band that experienced non-stop and significant criticism from the population. The film aims to be a raw portrayal of the Canadian stadium rockers’ rollercoaster career.

Leigh Brooks completed the documentary in June, and he expressed his gratitude and excitement for the opportunity to capture the band’s remarkable story. After six years of filming, Brooks shared his feelings on LinkedIn, noting the challenges and rewarding experiences during the filmmaking process.

“Wow. 6 years filming the Nickelback doc and today was the last day, Nickelback and everyone one of the Nickelteam are fine fine people,” Brooks wrote. “Eternally grateful the band let us document this amazing film. There were times I didn’t think this day would come, and although it feels like a freight train grinding to a halt, I’m really excited for what is pulling up at the station as we speak.”

Previously known for his work on documentaries about Life of Agony and Terrorvision, Brooks’ talent and track record led him to undertake the Nickelback project.

Currently, Nickelback is actively touring across North America, having performed in Nashville, Tenn., just last night. The extensive tour will continue until early October.
