Mikaela Davis has shared a new single off her impending full-length release, And Southern Star, due on August 4, 2023, via Kill Rock Stars. The track, titled “Cinderella,” is a harp-drenched stinger that flexes the musician’s instrumental and vocal abilities. Davis has also shared a music video in conjunction with today’s song drop.
The video was directed by Evan Daves, who captures dreamy scenes of the artist in a stunning red tulle dress, galavanting through the natural environment while also presenting personal moments of Davis lounging and serenading the viewer, eyes locked on the camera in the process. The video concludes with the musician plucking her stringed instrument, emphasizing her musical background and displaying her range of talent.
News of the artist’s forthcoming album arrives five years after the release of her debut set, Delivery. Since then, Davis has left her hometown of Rochester, N.Y., earned her degree in harp performance at the Crane School of Music, and graduated to share the stage with Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Christian McBride, Bon Iver, Lake Street Dive, and Circles Around the Sun.
“Cinderella” is the latest release from Davis’ And Southern Star and arrives after “Home in the Country,” shared last month. Previously she delivered additional singles off the impending collection, such as “Far From You” and “Promise,” all of which display the artist’s ability to meld ‘60s pop-laden melodies with a sense of psychedelia, all the while running a rod of twang throughout.
