According to a post shared via his social media outlets, Stanley Mouse has suffered from a debilitating stroke. Known for conceiving iconic imagery for the Grateful Dead and others, Mouse has long been associated with the San Francisco music scene, drawing up psychedelic poster art and applying visuals to beloved concepts since the ‘60s. 

The statement shared via Mouse’s official Instagram account read: “Stanley Mouse has suffered a debilitating stroke. He is working on recovering but is unsure if he will regain the ability to draw again. He would like to thank all of the people who have shown him support and love throughout his career as an artist.”

Before concluding the bitter news, they added: “He will continue to sell his existing art on his website mousestudios.com.” Mouse is known for sharing creative ventures with fellow Dead-adjacent artist Alton Kelley, the pair notably came up with the legendary Ice Cream Kid and Rainbow Foot images, which adorned the Grateful Dead’s triple live album, Europe ‘72

His solo career conjured notable moments as well, from applying flames to Eric Clapton’s Rolls Royce in London to creating the cover art for Steve Miller’s album Book of Dreams, which took home a Grammy in 1977, Mouse has been at the forefront of the music industry, all the while illustrating artist’s ideas and making symbols associated with beloved acts.
