Last night, the beloved rock band moe. kicked off their three-night run amongst the lanes of the Brooklyn Bowl in New York City. To start off the weekend, the ensemble tapped both their discography and covers to showcase their expert level of onstage communication and creativity before a heartfelt encore in honor of Chuck Garvey, which saw renowned guitarist Tim Palmieri–who plays with moe.’s Vinnie Amico and Rob Derhak in Blue Star Radiation–join in on the final song.

moe. started the evening with a rocking interpretation of Bob Dylan’s “The Man In Me.” The song appears during the opening credits to the bowling-themed Big Lebowski, marking the first time moe. has played the song since 2014. This flowed into a segue of “Seat Of My Pants” into “LL3” – during the transition they teased 1999’s “Sensory Deprivation Bank,” which would show up during the second set. Next came “Tailspin,” followed by the smokey “Jazz Cigarette.” Bassist Derhak then took on vocal duties for “Spine Of A Dog” before they rounded the set out with “Buster.”

The second frame kicked off with “Kyle’s Song, followed by their first “Livin’ Again” since 2021. “Down Boy” and McBain” followed before the aforementioned “Sensory Deprivation Bank” returned in top and complete form as the penultimate song. The ensemble then closed with “Bring You Down.”

After much applause, impresario and proprietor of Brooklyn Bowl, Peter Shapiro, showed some love to Garvey–who was ever present and on point throughout the performance–by presenting him a trophy. moe. then rocked into “Letter Home” before Palmieri joined for a howling rendition of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song,” effectively leaving the band and fans ready for two more nights of some of the finest live playing around.
