Last night, May 12, Billy Strings brought his unique sound and rocking sound to Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo., the second night of his two-night run as part of his spring tour. The show featured an eclectic mix of covers and originals, leaving the sold-out crowd with an unforgettable experience.

Strings kicked off the night with a lively rendition of “Ruby Are You Mad,” a classic tune from The Osborne Brothers. He followed it up with a tender rendition of “Love Me, Darling, Just Tonight” by The Stanley Brothers. Strings and his band kept the crowd on their toes with “If Your Hair’s Too Long (There’s Sin in Your Heart),” a traditional tune that they made all their own. Next, the audience erupted into cheers when Strings began “I Can See Clearly Now,” Johnny Nash’s classic tune, which was followed by their own hit “Red Daisy” and a beautiful version of “I’ll Remember You, Love, in My Prayers” by William “Billy” Hayes.

Strings kept the energy up with “Pyramid Country,” an original that showcased his impressive picking skills, which gave way to “Must Be Seven” before Strings dove into a Greensky Bluegrass’ “A Letter to Seymour.” Strings and his band continued with another cover this time composed of Led Zeppelin’s “Four Sticks,” followed by an explosive rendition of fan favorite “Dust in a Baggie.” Strings then slowed things down with “My Alice” before picking up the pace with “End of the Rainbow” by Frank Wakefield, then closed with “Know It All.”

After the set break, Strings got the crowd back on their feet with “Know It All” before launching into “Slow Train.” He then played a crowd favorite, “Meet Me at the Creek,” before delivering a powerful performance of “Show Me the Door.” Strings showed off his solo skills with “Catch & Release” before treating the audience to another solo cover, “Brown’s Ferry Blues” by The Delmore Brothers. The band then brought the energy back up with “Heartbeat of America.” Strings continued to impress with a cover of Pearl Jam’s “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town” before “Cabin Song.” The band then delivered a stunning rendition of Tony Rice’s “Tipper,” which melded into a penultimate “Turmoil & Tinfoil.” The traditional “Come Down the Mountain Katie Daly” served as the closing song.

For the encore, Strings and his band performed “Freedom” with only one microphone, leaving the crowd with a beautiful, intimate performance. Tonight Strings will continue his Colorado run with a performance at The Mission Ballroom in Denver.
