Karina Rykman, the beloved bassist known for her work with Marco Benevento and on Late Night With Seth Meyers, performed with Melt guitarist Marlo Shankweiler during her show in New Orleans on Friday night at the Blue Nile. The show was completely sold-out and marked the first time Rykman had played in the Cresent City with her own band.

Shankweiler joined Rykman and her ensemble–Adam November (guitar/looper/effects) and Chris Corsico (drums)–on stage for a rendition of “Skylark/Slow Lark,” which was met with elation and dancing from the audience ready to groove deep into the night. The charismatic and energetic Rykman, like many musicians who enjoyed the week-long celebration in New Orleans, performed with other musicians during her stay, including the Disco Biscuits at Mahalia Jackson Theater on “Let’s Dance” and Neal Francis at the Toulouse for a rendition of “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy.”

“So beyond grateful to get to play New Orleans with my band for the first time! Thank you endlessly for selling it out and bringing your insane energy from 1:45am-3:45am!” Rykman wrote on Instagram. “We had the time of our lives.”

Rykman’s will continue to jam throughout the summer with sets at festivals, including Tulip Festival, Northlands Music & Arts Festival, Arrowood Farms, the Peach Music Festival, and more. Notably, she’ll be joining the Disco Biscuits at their destination event in Iceland on May 21.
