Widespread Panic took the stage at The Theater at MGM National Harbor for the third and final stand of their multi-night sweep outside Washington D.C. The band followed up from a monumental Saturday night gig, paying homage to the band’s original guitarist, Michael Houser, who passed away in 2002 after battling pancreatic cancer. Sunday night featured a jammed-out setlist stacked with tunes from across the group’s extensive catalog, including a fierce John Bell led solo on “Chilly Water.”

The band’s Washington D.C. finale began with “Sell Sell” before they fired up the first set with “Chilly Water” off 1988’s Space Wrangler. For the night’s second number, John Bell led a solo clear through the first chorus, adding some stylized flair to the first track off the group’s debut album. They then followed with “Hatfield” before pairing “Christmas Katie” with “Radio Child.” The coupled songs came before “Airplane” into “Take-Off Jam” and “Jade Tourist.”

To follow up on the monstrous jam, Widespread Panic worked “Me and the Devil Blues” in the set before concluding the first frame on “North.” Then, after a brief break, the group returned to the stage for their final selection of tunes, beginning with “Second Skin,” which bled into “Greta” and “Weak Brain.” For the following number, the Athens band landed on “Narrow Mind” before opening up a segued selection on “Aunt Avis,” which ran into “Driving Song” and “Let’s Get The Show On The Road,” which led into added improvisations and a drums solo, before taking shape as “Driving Song” once more.

Widespread segued in “Disco” after “Driving Song” and finally capped the second set with “Black Out Blues.” For the night’s encore, the ensemble retook the stage and started in on “Bird On A Wire” before ending the night on “Postcard.” After this weekend’s run in Washington D.C., the band will take some time off the road before returning on Oct. 1 for a headlining slot at Mempho Music Festival in Memphis, Tenn., for tickets visit widespreadpanic.com.
