Trey Anastasio rolled into Seattle last night for the second show on his acoustic tour. After setting off the run in Portland on Tuesday, the Phish frontman’s follow-up expanded the run’s repertoire with a new mix of old favorites stripped back to solo duet arrangements with pianist Jeff Tanski. None of the 23 tracks included in the set were repeated from night one, and one was a truly rare sighting

Anastasio and Tanski emerged together at the Paramount Theater and commenced their program with the classic “Theme from the Bottom,” then moved into Evolve, the title track from their 16th studio album, before unearthing “Esther”; Anastasio had only rolled out the Junta selection in concert once before, back in June 2021. Anastasio then took on four tracks alone, including “Brian and Robert” and “Limb By Limb,” before the duo, who have remained consistent collaborators from their work together on 2013’s Broadway musical Hands on a Hardbody to last year’s Beacon Jams anniversary celebration at the Beacon Theater, reconnected for four more songs, and they rotated like that through a shared set-closer onf “You Enjoy Myself.” To cap off the show, they returned for an encore of “More,” “The Squirming Coil” and “First Tube.”

In April, Anastasio announced the July release of Trey Anastasio – Live and Acoustic, his first independent live album since 2020’s Burn It Down and a record of his 20-show series with Tanski from last spring, which marked his first proper acoustic tour in six years. The album will feature 22 tracks culled from the run’s repertoire, including Phish classics like “Stash,” “Billy Breathes,” “Lifeboy” and “Divided Sky,” all produced by Vance Powell.

Anastasio and Tanski will move on to Missoula, Mont., tomorrow for the first of two shows at The Wilma, then continue with eight further performances across the country through June 24. Find tickets and information on the full acoustic outing at trey.com.
