Denver-based soul and funk ensemble The Motet have shared their new cover of Tame Impala’s 2020 track “Breathe Deeper.” The track sees The Motet reimagining the song with a slowed-down adaptation that gives ample space for Drew Sayers’ otherworldly synths and Joey Porter on the vocoder.

The cover was shared as The Motet continue on their 2022 Keep On Don’t Stoppin’ Tour, which will make its next stop at Steamboat Springs and Aspen, Colo., this weekend. The tour will see the band make stops on the East Coast and conclude with a celebration at Red Rocks Amphitheatre with Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and Cory Henry on May 27.

“We are leaning heavily towards our instrumental sound these days and have been featuring all five members as soloists. We all have a history performing jazz so we really prioritize improvisation as a key part of our live performances,” said Drummer Dave Watts in a press release.

The Motet’s Red Rocks show will mark their seventh headling event at the all-natural odeum and will see performances by special guests Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin, & Wood), singers Shira Elias and Sammi Garett and horns from The Horn Section (formerly of Turkuaz).

“I’ve had the honor to play Red Rocks at least 10 times now in various capacities and I still get choked up at some point throughout the day,” said The Motet’s guitarist Ryan Jalbert in a statement. “I’ll walk up to the top row after sound check and I’m inevitably moved to tears. It’s not just because of the beauty of the venue (which is of course stunning), it’s more so just being touched by the immense support of all of our fans that stick with us through thick and thin, ups and downs, lineup changes, global pandemics, whatever… and then we have our chance to celebrate together under the stars at this amazing place.”
