Phish played the final show of their four-night Riviera Maya destination event at the Moon Palace, Cancun, Mexico. Like the previous evenings, Phish treated fans to a show lush with bust-outs, fan favorites and extended jams.
The quartet kicked off the first set of their final night at the Moon Palace with a bust-out cover of Little Feat’s “Fat Man in the Bathtub” which was last played over a decade ago during their New Year’s Run on Dec. 30, 2010. They then moved into a clean segued jam of “Mike’s Song” > “I Am Hydrogen” > “Weekapaug Groove.” As the sun began to set the band delivered a memorable take on “46 Days” which was followed by “Rift.” Phish then treated fans yet another non-stop jam of “If I Could” > “My Friend, My Friend” > “Clear Your Mind” > “Split Open and Melt.” Their performance of “Clear Your Mind” marked the first time the band shared the song since its debut during Halloween’s Sci-Fi Soldier show and “Split Open and Melt” saw a tease of “On Broadway.” They closed the first set with the rocking harmony-filled “Suzy Greenberg.”
Phish’s second set was almost entirely a non-stop segued performance, save for the finale. They opened with “No Men in No Man’s Land” during which Anastasio teased riffs from Freddie King’s “San-Ho-Zay” and Jimi Hendrix’s “Third Stone From the Sun.” Without pause, they moved into the sparse and warbling “Everything’s Right” and then the high octane “Prince Caspian.” The band smoothed out the feel with the layered and ambient “Beneath a Sea of Stars, Part 1.” They continued to prove their mastery over atmosphere as the ambient song morphed into the complex and jam-fueled “Golden Age.” Their recently debuted but already refined 2021 song “Lonely Trip” served as the set’s penultimate track, and served as the highspeed extended jam’s brake pads. Phish treated fans to a much anticipated “Harry Hood” to close out the second set.
The four sun-kissed musicians returned to the stage to encore with “Life Beyond The Dream” and “First Tube.” Phish are set to perform their rescheduled New Year’s Eve Run at Madison Square Garden in New York City starting on April 20.
