Dark Star Orchestra have been rocking out at their destination concert event, Jam In The Sand, at Jewel Paradise Cove Resort in Runaway, Jamaica. On Friday, the tribute band was joined by their former guitarist, John Kadlecik, during the second set of the band’s Jan. 14 concert.

The first set opened with a classic Grateful Dead pairing,  “China Cat Sunflower,” into “I Know You Rider.” The band continued with an epic rendition of “Bird Song,” followed by “Cumberland Blues” and “Easy Wind,” before closing out the set with “Let It Grow.”

The second set opened with “Here Comes Sunshine” off the 1973 studio album Wake of the Flood, followed by “Feel like a Stranger.” Kadlecik–who helped found the group in 1997 and stayed with them until departing in 2009 to focus on Furthur–stepped in for “Lazy River Road.” After the guitarist left the stage, keyboardist Rob Barraco delivered a Pigpen-style performance of the Dead’s take on The Young Rascals’ “Good Lovin.’”

“These guys are great,” Kadlecik remarked before exiting the stage. The guitarist attended the Jam In The Sand event as a part of the Melvin Seals and Jerry Garcia Band. He also performed with Dark Star Orchestra at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo., last summer.
