My Morning Jacket have released the first official single off their upcoming self-titled album, which is due to drop on Oct. 22. The track comes accompanied by a video directed by George Mays and features animation by Mero Estudio.

The video opens with the band silhouetted on a stage, as Jim James takes his first breath and sings together with the band “LOVE, LOVE, LOVE,” the band and background come to life with color, geometry, light and imagery of nature and cityscapes. No two frames are the same. The band themselves are drawn upon; their silhouettes are echoed with color, and their energy is imaged, as their latest anthem rallies the listener to reach greater emotional and spiritual heights.

In a press release, James said of the song, “‘Love Love Love’ is trying to steer the ship away from everything I’m talking about in ‘Regularly Scheduled Programming,’ and speak toward positivity and pure love, finding truth within yourself and in the world around you.”

On Aug. 24 the band released “Regularly Scheduled Programming” the track served as a reintroduction to the band after a six-year absence of their full presence. The slow-building song swoons and builds as My Morning Jacket explores the themes that have solidified their presence in the minds of many during the past half-decade. James sings “Screen time addiction, replacing real life and love/Erasing forgiveness/Bow down to your overlords.” The video for the track features them driving through the desert while completely distracted by outside stimuli, most of it electronic, the rest of it prescribed.

My Morning Jacket is currently on tour and recently played in New York City, where they debuted “Love Love Love” for the first time live.

My Morning Jacket marks the band’s first album of completely fresh material since 2015’s The Waterfall. Though The Waterfall II, which features unreleased recordings from the same sessions, arrived in July of 2020.
