Live Nation the largest concert promoter in the U.S. has announced they will require proof of vaccination or a negative covid test for entry at all of their venues and festivals. Live Nation puts on over 40,000 shows and more than 100 festivals each year.
Initially, Live Nation made the decision to allow its artists to dictate the COVID-19 precautions individually but as the rise of the Delta variant of COVID-19 cases continues to rise that has changed. They will also be requiring all of their employees to be vaccinated, by the same date the proof of vaccination requirement to events kicks in on Oct. 4.
“Vaccines are going to be your ticket back to shows, and as of October 4th, we will be following the model we developed for Lollapalooza and requiring this for artists, fans and employees at Live Nation venues and festivals everywhere possible in the US,” Live Nation president and CEO Michael Rapino said in a statement.
Lollapalooza which was expected to be a superspreader event actually lead to far fewer cases than expected due to the aforementioned model. “Twelve percent of fans said Lolla was actually their reason for getting vaccinated – which is a huge number with 400k attendees throughout the weekend,” a spokesperson for Live Nation told NBC News.
