After a memorable weekend in Alpharetta, Phish continued their summer tour on Aug. 4, kicking off a two-night, mid-week run in Music City, USA.
Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheate was abuzz on Tuesday night, and the band certainly didn’t disappoint, opening with a trio of danceable favorites: Punch You in the Eye, Strawberry Letter 23 > Sample in a Jar.
However, the major headline coming out of Nashville was the debut of a new original “Mull.”
“Mull” arrived near the end of the first frame, and some keen-eared fans recognized the Mike Gordon tune from a Phish soundcheck on Aug. 1. Others enjoyed how its culinary-minded lyrics – “Could you pass me a taco” – made their Phish debut on taco Tuesday.
Other highlights from Phish’s first night in Nashville include a “Party Time” to open the second set, as well as a “Light”> “You Enjoy Myself” to end the outing.
For some extra oomph, The Rolling Stones’ “Loving Cup” acted as the encore.
