Patrick Sansone of Wilco and The Autumn Defense released a two-track EP under the moniker Birdy on The Moon in January 2021. The songs, which are currently available on a limited edition 7-inch vinyl, are set to release on streaming services worldwide on July 23.

“It was a time in my life of deep inspiration and musical exploration. I was fortunate to have access to a great recording studio in New Orleans where I could stretch out and dig in…both alone during many long late-night sessions, and also with the contributions of some talented friends,” said Sansone in a statement.

The A-side, “High and Low” was recorded at Magazine Sound Recording in ’98 and ’99 and features Greg Wieczorek of The Autumn Defense and Norah Jones on drums. “The Message” features Glen Graham of Blind Melon on drums. Austin Hoke added cello to the track from Nashville in 2019.

Though “High and Low” and “The Message” mark the first release of this material; Sansone said, “I am happy to finally share these, and will be releasing more music from the archives in the months to come.”
