Minka / Beard-o-Bees – a collaboration between Ari Rubin of Minka and Jesse Miller of Lotus and Octave Cat – have released their collaborative debut, titled Paella, today, July 9.

The two came together after Miller saw Rubin perform as Minka in small clubs over a number of years and dug his 80s minimal rock-n-roll influences.

The 5-track EP blends electronica synths, dance beats, indie-esque songwriting and a flood of soul. Each track, which was recorded with the goal of writing a full song in each session, evokes a unique loose funky freedom.

“Jesse is really good with these things he calls ‘modular synths.’ I don’t really know what they are, or how they do what they do.” said Rubin in a press release, “I DO know that they create musical patterns I never would have thought of. Floating atop a kaleidoscopic maelstrom of sound, I feel free to let loose vocally, much like the famed Madagascar fish eagle, soaring high above the sea until it dives deep for its prey.”

Rubin added, “…please write to me at: [email protected] with your own crime/love stories”
