Grateful Dead HQ are looking back at the band’s later era with a May 1993 version of Bob Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower.”

“Joining the Grateful Dead’s repertoire in June 1987, this Bob Dylan classic was worked up during rehearsals for the July 1987 Dylan & The Dead tour,” explains GD legacy manager/archivist David Lemieux. “The Dead, however, played it closer to Jimi Hendrix’s more famous version, which is to say it was guitar-driven and fierce. Usually appearing in the post-Space, pre-ballad slot, ‘Watchtower’ was one of the hardest rocking songs of the night whenever the Dead played it.”
