Billy Strings made the most of his day off in Charleston, WV on Sunday, August 2. According to reports, the guitarist, who was in town to play the 13,5000-capacity Charleston Coliseum last night, stopped by the approximately 100-person Empty Glass bar to play his Gibson SG electric guitar with the John Inghram Band for about an hour. The Sunday jam session is a regularly occurrence at the Empty Glass, hosted by Inghram, a local musician and producer on NPR’s Mountain Stage Radio Show. The storied program is taped nearby and The Empty Glass festivities are frequently used as an after-party hang—this past Sunday, one of the program’s features guests, Candi Jenkins, also stopped by to perform with John Inghram Band.

Social media comments note that Strings sat in on a range of material, including Leftover Salmon’s “Troubled Times” and J.J. Cale’s “Call Me The Breeze,” during his evening appearance. He also joined the band for “Going Down The Road Feeling Bad,” which featured Jenkins, and pictures confirm that Kathy Mattea and Abigail Spangler both also sat in at various points during the show. After leaving the stage, Strings reportedly joined another local musician, Jakob Thomas, for a two-hour bonus picking session outside the venue as well.

Then, last night, Strings and his band appeared at the Charleston Coliseum, a rescheduled date following the guitarist’s recent skateboarding accident, and busted out several songs for the first time this year. Those choice cuts included Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs and The Foggy Mountain Boys’ “99 Years (Is Almost For Life),” which Strings had not played since April 27, 2024, Tex Williams’ “Smoke, Smoke, Smoke That Cigarette,” which had been on the shelf since December 13, 2025, and Will S Hayes’ “I’ll Remember You, Love, In My Prayers,” which String had not covered since December 14, 2025.

Strings will perform at Fisher, IN’s Fisher Event Center tomorrow.
