Bob Dylan has released his first new song in eight years.
The tune – dubbed “Murder Most Foul” – clocks in just below 17 minutes and chronicles the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
“Greetings to my fans and followers with gratitude for all your support and loyalty across the years,” Dylan wrote on the early morning hours of March 27. “This is an unreleased song we recorded a while back that you might find interesting. Stay safe, stay observant and may God be with you.”

March 28, 2020 at 5:10 amI’m ashamed that I cracked jokes elsewhere about the 16-plus minutes length. To my surprise, not a wasted note or word in this genuine epic.
No doubt some artists will be miffed they didn’t get namechecked in the lyrics. As a Canadian, I’m proud my late countryman Oscar Peterson made the cut.
I’m surprised Mr. Z didn’t release this last November or this coming one, closer to the November 22 anniversary date of President Kennedy’s assassination. But maybe the timing is perfect. Because, with social distancing underway, few will have an excuse not to hear this start to finish at least once.

March 27, 2020 at 6:16 pmEven though I know it is the great Mr Zimmerman singing this, as I listen images of Adam Sandler on SNL keep popping into my head.

March 27, 2020 at 5:42 pmA tragedy that defined a generation long before I was born and yet I could not turn my ears away. I don’t remember listening so intently to a song before.
Thank you, Bob

March 27, 2020 at 2:35 pmWhat a cultural elegy. Pebbles of that event dropped in the human pond— resonates deeply for me with current events. This is a dirge, no dance tune. Grateful to the old man in this time of the pandemic for persevering, bringing us beauty from the brink. And the accompaniment… rocks my boat.
