Early in the morning of Dec. 17, Live Nation posted a cryptic graphic to Instagram. The post included illustrations of a mushroom and a peach – both symbols associated with The Allman Brothers Band – as well as the text “The Brothers,” “March 2020” and “#TheBrothers50.” It was captioned “Stay Tuned. #TheBrothers50.”
No other details have circulated, so it remains to be seen exactly when and where the event will take place, or what shape it will take.
Adding to the mystery is the state of the Allman Brothers’ extended family. Sadly, recent years have seen the tragic passing of co-founder Gregg Allman and drummer Butch Trucks, and original member Dickey Betts has struggled with some serious health issues.
However, the Allman Brothers Band family tradition lives on in the Allman Betts Band, a relatively new act made up of Devon Allman (son of Gregg), Duane Betts (son of Dickey) and Berry Oakley Jr. (son of original Allman Brothers’ bassist Berry Oakley). The band released their debut solo album in June; during live shows this past spring, they played original songs, music from their respective solo projects and Allman Brothers’ classics.
Of course, beyond founding member Jaimoe, there are many active musicians who have had significant involvement in the Allman Brothers Band, including Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, Oteil Burbridge, Marc Quinones, Chuck Leavell, Jack Pearson and Jimmy Herring. It will be interesting to see which performers will be involved in the event.
Allman Brothers Band fans should keep their eye out for more information as March draws nearer. Check out Live Nation’s Instagram post below.

December 19, 2019 at 12:57 pmMarch 2020 would be 51st anniversary. I’d settle for LAST concert from Beacon released … preferably on BluRay. Even better, LAST TWO concerts from Beacon. I was at both and they would be a perfect book-end to ‘LIVE at Fillmore East’ classic recording. Those LAST Beacon concerts were easily comparable to Fillmore East.

December 18, 2019 at 12:54 amI agree with the non haters… while I do agree though that overall live Nation sucks moose nuts.. and should very well be sued for the outrageous ticket fees..as for a celebration of the life and music of the greatest American band ever IMHO.. I’d be completely psyched to see and be part of a proper celebration if it includes all or most of the folks living who played with the brothers at various times..as well as the great musicians they used to bring up on stage to sit in! The Beacon would obviously be the most fitting venue… only.. I personally think interest in a celebration will be extremely high..so I wouldn’t mind the world’s greatest arena…MSG.. which I think wouldn’t be hard to sell out for such a fitting tribute. Hopefully Dickie will be well enough to join..but if not..than I’d be happy with all the other greats who played with them being there along with the sons and other people who held the Allman brothers in such high esteem! I can’t think of any band who deserves it more!! ✌️🍑🍄🙏🎸🎹🤞❤️

December 17, 2019 at 10:02 pmSurprised no one has commented that the 50th anniversary would be this year.
“The Allman Brothers Band was an American rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1969 by brothers Duane Allman and Gregg Allman, as well as Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks, and Jai Johanny “Jaimoe” Johanson.”
saw a few shows on the 40th anniversary tour and that was in 2009 not 2010
Huh

December 17, 2019 at 4:51 pmI prefer to think none of the musicians involved need another ‘job’ and they’re doing this for soul more than money. It’s not like it would be some huge payday anyway. Looking forward to it.

December 17, 2019 at 4:05 pmIt’s a celebration of the music no one is claiming it’s The Allman Brothers. Chill people.

December 17, 2019 at 4:20 pmIt’s Live Nation monetizing and has nothing to do with the music. This idea was hatched at a corporate meeting and not by the musicians.

December 17, 2019 at 3:39 pmPlease stop with this nonsense. This band retired, most of the prime members have passed. Touring this 3rd generation ABB is just sad.

December 17, 2019 at 2:37 pmAlong w/ Warren, Oteil, Derek, Jimmy, there are other ABB members such as Jaimoe, Marc Q., Jack Pearson, Chuck Leavell, etc, as well as extended family such as Lamar Jr., Scott Sharrard, Junior Mack, Susan T., Jimmy Hall, Jay Collins and the horn section, Pat Bergeson, Bruce Katz, Duane Trucks, and on and on. I hope this event includes many of these names and isn’t a B-list

December 17, 2019 at 1:39 pmGo see and support original music by the original musicians. What a sad state of shows at many local venues…covers, covers, covers: Queen, Clapton, Abba, Taylor/King, Simon/Garfunkel, Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Whitney Houston, Eagles, Buddy Holly, The Floyd.
