Ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro has announced a new studio record, entitled Trio. The album is due out on Feb. 14, 2020 via Music Theories Records.
The album will see Shimabukuro joined by Nolan Verner on bass and Dave Preston on guitar, both of whom have been playing with the ukulele master for years. Unlike Shimabukuro’s previous efforts – which sometimes included contributions from studio musicians – Trio is “a true band album” (quote via press release); all of the sounds on the record were performed by just Shimabukuro, Verner and Preston. In fact, many of the album’s songs were spontaneously written in the studio (according to a press release).
Along with the record announcement, Shimabukuro also released a single: a reworking of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here.” Listen to the brand new single below, and check out Shimabukuro’s take on “Eleanor Rigby” from his Relix Studio Session!
