On Nov. 6, The Infamous Stringdusters treated fans at The State Theater in Greenville, N.C. to an all-Grateful Dead second set, which included takes on many of band’s classic tunes.

The band’s first set was mostly standard Stringdusters fare, opening with “It’ll Be Alright” into “Let Me Know.” “Long Time Goin’,” a track from their 2019 release Rise Sun, followed the opening sequence and then segued into a cover of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven.” “Truth and Love,” another song from Rise Sun, came next, followed by a cover Bobby “Blue” Bland’s “Turn on Your Lovelight,” a song which was frequently played by the Grateful Dead. The trio of “Once Your Gone,” “Get It” and “Y2K” concluded the set.

The second half began with another cover frequently played by the Dead, Johnny Cash’s “Big River.” Next came the Stringdusters’ take on “Scarlet Begonias,” an oft-covered Dead song by artists from Jimmy Buffett to Sublime.

“Scarlet” was followed by trio of songs featured on the Dead’s 1972 live release Europe ’72: “Mr. Charlie,” “He’s Gone” and “Brown Eyed Women.” Next, the Stringdusters took on one of the Dead’s most beloved tunes, “Terrapin Station.”

The set wrapped up with the pairing of “Rosalee McFall” into “Tennessee Jed.” For the encore, the band opted for “Rise Sun” from the eponymous album.
