Steely Dan continued their Beacon Theatre run this weekend, with a standout performance on Friday, Oct. 18 that included the first live version of “Brooklyn (Owes the Charmer Under Me)” since 1974.

The Oct. 18 gig was billed as a “Popular Demand” performance, and it opened with a cover of Oliver Nelson’s “Teenie’s Blues.” From there, Steely Dan offered a batch of favorites like “Hey Nineteen,” “Aja,” “Kid Charlemagne” and “Dirty Work.”

After a version of “Godwhacker,” Steely Dan touring guitarist Connor Kennedy took over on vocals for “Brooklyn (Owes the Charmer Under Me),” which originally appeared on Steely Dan’s 1972 debut Can’t Buy A Thrill. (It was originally written and sung by former Steely Dan band member David Palmer, who also provided vocals to the band’s original recording of “Dirty Work.”)

Later, Steely Dan closed their Oct. 18 performance with “My Old School,” before an encore of “Reelin’ in the Years” and “A Man Ain’t Supposed to Cry.”

Steely Dan will hold the final two nights of their Beacon run on Oct. 21 and Oct. 22, performing Gaucho and a “Greatest Hits” selection respectively.
