On Thursday evening, Little Kids Rock hosted a benefit event at New York’s Playstation Theater, honoring a few musicians for their work and offering performances with special guests. Warren Haynes was among the honorees, and the Gov’t Mule frontman was presented with the Music Makers award after being introduced by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Steve Miller.

Haynes also performed a few tunes at the benefit, starting off with a “Statesboro Blues” featuring Miller and the house band for the evening, which included musical director Will Lee, plus drummer Liberty DeVitto and former Yankees player/jazz musician Bernie Williams.

Haynes then welcomed one of the student musicians at the benefit, guitarist Vince Molden (who has toured with School of Rock), for Haynes’ own “Soulshine.” Haynes’ performance rounded out with a rendition of Ray Charles’ classic “What’d I Say” with the house band and the student musicians, plus Trombone Shorty and Cuban-American singer-songwriter Jon Secada.
